Need to See It: Jiro Dreams of Sushi (2012)

This one goes out to the girl in my social psychology class who just clicks through food porn the entire time. And I was wondering where my craving for totally unnecessary pizzas with pear and gorgonzola was coming from…

So let us face it. Most food on this planet is completely amateur. We sit there and nod our heads, eating the entire plate because we were completely starving. But most of the time we are just lying. There is nothing special in the occasional dining experience, unless there is some sort of meaning attached.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi is a film I need to see for its representations of the sort of meaning that should go into food. Sushi is not just a meal, it is equated to art and music-it takes hands and brushstrokes for perfection, and it is as fine as a symphony with three movements. Jiro is like a cinematic auteur-he has vision, skill and passion. Watch the clip above and I am sure you will want to catch the entire flick and make your own/order in sushi as soon as it is done.
